I signed up for the Chickamauga Battlefield Marathon on 4-14 and was charged $65.30 for the event. I did not sign up for an Active.com membership since my first race would not be until Nov and did not plan on running any others this year. Today I noticed that my checking account has a pending charge for $59.95 which I assume is a membership fee. I went back and looked at my registration form to verify that I did not sign up and saw that I did not. Can you please cancel this pending charge as I have not signed up for any other races and do not wish to be a member. You may reach me at the below # or simply reply by e-mail.
Thank you

Again, we apologize for any confusion around the trial offer. We only want members who intended to be members and we’re happy to quickly resolve any incidents that come up by canceling the membership and refunding if a charge has occurred. This is a part of our 100% satisfaction guarantee.
We also attempt to be very clear in our member communication. We do send a trial confirmation email immediately after a trial is started and we also send an email half way through the trial period (in addition to any other membership benefit emails that go out during the trial period). When the trial membership comes to an end and the annual membership begins, we send a billing confirmation email welcoming you to the annual membership. As mentioned before, at any point during or after the trial you may take advantage of the satisfaction guarantee—if you’re not getting full use of the membership, let us know and we’ll cancel and refund the membership for you. We make every attempt to clearly communicate these steps of the trial offer and membership as a whole and we apologize if any of these steps have been lost in your individual experience. -
There are 2 ways you can become an ActiveAdvantage member:
1. Directly through the ActiveAdvantage Website: You may visit http://advantage.active.com/ and select the "Join Now" option to become a member. Go through a few quick membership enrollment steps, submit your annual membership fee and then start saving on the things you need to pursue your active lifestyle!
2. Through a free-trial offer presented during an online registration: After you submit payment for an online registration through an Active Network registration platform (Active.com, RegOnline, etc), an offer for a free 30-day trial membership will appear. You can accept this offer and take advantage of the trial membership by verifying your email address and then clicking the acceptance button on the screen. If you do accept the trial offer, you'll receive a trial confirmation email from ActiveAdvantage shortly after. After the 30-day trial period has passed, you will be extended into the annual membership and charged the current membership fee. You will receive a reminder email 14 days into your trial period and another notification when full membership billing occurs. If you do not wish to extend your membership (during the trial period or after), you may cancel at any time.
You're always protected by our money back guarantee--if you're ever dissatisfied during your trial or thereafter, simply email or call us to cancel your membership and you'll receive a prorated refund of the annual fee, no questions asked.

Campers Beware! Active.com has taken over Reserve America. So now when you make a reservation for a campground active.com has access to your credit card account. Through very deceptive tactics they make it very easy to mistakenly sign up for their free trial membership. I do not even recall doing it. Then when the trial membership runs out they charge you 59.95 on your charge card that they get from you making a campground reservation. I lodged a complaint with Reserve America. Guess what? Reserve America is swamped with complaints about this deceptive and fraudulent practice that active.com. is pulling on the Reserve America customers. When I received active.com's email thanking me for signing up I responded to them that I did not know what they were talking about and stated that I did not want it. They responded back that they would cancel my membership. 10 days later I received another email from active.com that my trial membership was expiring and that I would be billed 59.95. I had to call my credit card company to stop any charge placed by active.com.
Sean. You do not need to respond to this complaint. I called and had the membership cancelled. I also do not need a patronizing apology from you. You and your company are well aware of this scam that you are pulling. You are a very deceptive and dishonest company. Sean, If I were you I would find and honest way to make a living. I have forwarded this information to the supervisors at Reserve America and will also be sending it to my State's Representatives to let them know how their State Parks customers are being duped.-

I'm sorry that I cannot be of more help, as I do not have access to user accounts. If there is a lengthy wait time on the phone, please feel free to submit your request via email. I would also suggest asking the Active Advantage rep for some confirmation (email) that your membership has been cancelled. They should be able to inform you how your membership was renewed as well.

Call your credit card company and have the charge reversed on your card. You cannot trust active.com. They are crooks. Also have a fraud alert attached to anything from active.com

I am currently deployed. I have the ability to occasionally check my bank information. Recently, my wife said she signed up for a "mud run". I saw a debit from ACT*xtreme 877-228-4881 CA on my account and looked into it, only to find this none sense issue people are clearly having. This corporation appears to by preying on individuals who are willing to overlook potential error on their part, and assume that they signed up for a "trial" on accident and forget to cancel before the trial expired, leaving them to believe it resulted in a membership fee, and they must accept it. For your information, once I validate that my wife in no way concurred to or accepted the terms of a fee, I will happily be seeking legal counsel to initiate the class action lawsuit for what appears to be misleading, unsubstantiated methodology of billing for services not agreed upon. Unfortunately, if these statements prove to be true, which at this time I will state are not validated and only deductive in nature, it is already past the point of fixing, but is not past the point of ceasing this process to limit further pecuniary liability of the company.
Good Day, and honestly, I hope it is legitimate fault or negligence of the user and not the fault of this corporation. It would be sad to see a company built on the ideology of individual strength and well-being to really be a cover for duping the weak.

This terrible business practice has to stop ...
People use their credit cards to enter local charity runs (often the only reason they're doing it) and the event host, active.com, uses it information to charge them with membership upgrades.
Not exactly opt-in, is it? This has to stop.
If I wanted to upgrade to an advantage account, I would do it myself. I do not need active.com to hold my hand; it's not more convenient; IT IS unethical.
I expect a full return and a response to this comment.-
Hi Zed. Please contact our ActiveAdvantage team and they will be able to issue you a refund. They can be reached by phone or email: http://advantage.active.com/contact.htm
Also, if you wouldn't mind, can you please forward me the link to the event that you registered for and believe that you were automatically signed up for a membership? Thank you and I apologize for the inconvenience. -

You will get a reply. Someone will simply say something like "We will refund your money in 72 hours." No apology, no promise to stop. We need to form a boycott. I personally tell everyone I know never to use Active.

The bottom line with active.com is if they get your credit card number then you need to cancel the card and have a new one reissued with a different number just as if the card was stolen because it was.If you do not then you stand a pretty good chance (from what I've read on other complaints) of active.com charging you again if not now then a year from now. I will never make a reservation or purchase anything again from a web site that is affiliated with active.com. I would rather give my credit card number to the Russian mafia. Report them to the Better Business Bureau. I did and they have quite a few complaints filed on them. What a surprise. Good Luck. Guy

thanks for the advice. Its something i've been considering. I will give them two more days, before i take any action. And, at that point, if I havent received a return, believe I will do everything in my power to make sure everyone I know knows it too.

I was charged an unauthorized membership fee to my bank account. I did not authorize to sign up for a membership with ActiveAdvantage and I would like my credit card to be refunded.

Unauthorized ActiveAdvantage membership charge.-
Thank you Sean. I called the support number, they cancelled my trial membership and refunded my money. I am waiting for the refund to be processed. Apparently, when I registered for a race I missed UN-CHECKING a box to not start a "trial membership" that charges if you dont cancel. My suggestion, dont default the check box as "selected", instead leave it blank and let people select what offers they want to participate in. This only makes ActiveAdvantage look bad.
Thanks for the info Sean. I am re-posting the contact information for the many other people were are going through the same thing as I had to deal with.

Hi! I1ve been charged for this membership either! I paid once for a sakura blossom festival marathon in Philly a year ago and didnt sign up for anything like that!! I`ve been calling 4 days and sent a letter but nothing! Nobody picks up the phone and nobody respond my letter!!!
-
Hi Oxana. I take it that by saying "letter" you are referring to an email you sent? If so, please allow a few business days for a response and check your junk mail folder to ensure that you don't miss the reply. Also, if you are calling, please be sure to call during business hours, which are Monday-Friday 7am-5pm Pacific.

I also had a 59.95 charge on my account! This is absolutely ridiculous! There is obviously something wrong with your stupid marketing "tactics!" You should be ashamed of yourselves (Active.com), it is an outrage to us people who want to be active and sign up for things that raise money for important causes. Don't take our money away for something we didn't "willingly" sign up for! I want my refund! (Ya, ya, I'll call back at regular business times...) Ugh!
